In all kind of plastic films for flexible packaging and industrial applications, antiblocking properties are very important for further handling and converting. Plastic layers tend to stick together. The addition of an antiblocking agent creates space between two plastic layers (surface roughness) preventing so-called blocking. Mostly anti blocking agents are used in multilayer structure films in order to have the highest benefit.
Blocking is the adhesion of two adjacent layers of film. It is a problem most associated with polyethylene and polypropylene films (either blown or cast), and to a lesser extent in extrusion coated or laminated products.
Mode of Action
SIVA Antiblock additive present in the resin microscopically protrudes from the film surface. This creates asperities, which help to minimize the film-to- film surface contact, increasing the distance between the two layers at micro level, thereby minimizing blocking. The blocking between adjacent layers results in increased resistance to motion, and the addition of an SIVA Antiblock contributes to a reduction in the film-to- film coetficient of friction.
